For many people, it’s not an unusual occurrence to veer off track and lose momentum and passion for a regular fitness and workout routine over time, and there can be many reasons for this.  While we won’t go into those specific reasons for the purpose of this post, there can be just as many reasons as to why we choose to get back in shape.  Usually, it is that a person will reach a point during a lull period where he or she feels the need to make the choice to do something, usually because either they are noticing changes in their physical appearance or simply by the way that they are beginning to feel at a particular time after a while, which also impacts their mood and overall mindset.  This will often be a sign that it is time to take action and do something about it, and fast.

In these cases, many people will find that these negatives can act subconsciously as a motivator which can bring a renewed and over ambitious desire to get back to the gym, or whichever place they normally choose to get fit.  There are many times where people will go back to the gym for the first time in a long time carrying that renewed energy and a great deal of motivation.  While this can be great for the first day or two back, what about the days and weeks that will follow when the routine is now the norm, and has reestablished its role in a person’s daily routine?

Those first days back are certainly a great kick-start to your big return to the gym, but the key to this is to find consistency and reasons to keep you going back for more in those days, weeks and months that follow.  There are many people who will once again get complacent and tired of the routine after they get that initial taste of being back in shape.  This is where you need to take a more disciplined approach that can be a real self test and challenge, but one that can be greatly beneficial to you when making that commitment.

Proper planning and goal setting is a huge part of this and can help you take a more consistent approach by having your mind made up in advance that you are to go to the gym or home train a certain number of times during the week or within a month in order to achieve both that regular workout rush and the goals you have set fourth.  This way, you have a purpose set in your mind that gives you some motivation to continue that momentum, even when you may not totally be up to it, similar to the way people feel on certain days they don’t want to go to work, but know that they have to in order to pay the bills.  This approach certainly does not have to be viewed as a chore, but rather as a way to maintain a good balance of your life and fitness goals.  Sure there are those who believe that each day at the gym should be a five star workout session, but you don’t have to take that approach to maintain a good fitness regimen if you are just looking to stay in shape as opposed to training for a sports or bodybuilding competition.

The point here is for you to remember why a fitness routine is a priority for you in the first place and the reasons that have brought you to this decision.  Don’t allow yourself to give up after the first week and begin treating it as a chore.  It doesn’t have to be!  By understanding your personal fitness goals and the benefits that you will receive as a result, this will establish a new level of motivation in you subconsciously and will be well situated in your mind as part of your regular everyday routine, even at times that you may have thought otherwise.  Always remember your goals and the benefits that follow, and most importantly, never give up!!!
