Staying Fit in the Modern World

funny_exercise_cartoon_2How ironic is it, considering all of the advances in technology and how they’ve affected the lives of so many people all over the world, along with an ever growing demand for simplicity and convenience, that it seems that so many people these days somehow still manage to have less time and less patience than we did “back in the day” when things took longer and were not as easily accessible?  Like many of the new and exciting inventions that changed our lives over the last century, it is not uncommon to find a way to take these new things for granted, and forget what life used to be like without them.

Nowadays, we have access to so many different gadgets and technology at our fingertips, we almost don’t even need to leave the house anymore.  We have the ability to access great high definition movies through on-demand with surround sound on a large flat screen TV right from our own living rooms with the push of a button on a remote, as well as multiple video and computer games, many of which can be very addictive and time consuming, among many other things that merely require only lifting a finger.  Having access to these things is not necessarily all bad, as everyone appreciates and enjoys a greater experience in how we do things, but what is concerning is the average consumer’s constant appetite for more of these, even better things waiting around the corner, many of which do not promote any encouragement or motivation for fitness or any kind of physical activity, but rather more reasons to stay inside and do even less, giving fewer and fewer reasons for many, particularly young people, to have any desire to be more physically active in even more ways. After all, exercise isn’t fun, right?

And why do I want to exercise when I can stay home all day with access to endless hours of home entertainment?  Don’t get me wrong, we live in very exciting times with some really cool advances in technology which many of us could never have imagined when we were growing up.  However, as demands grow for many of these leisure activities which involve less physical effort by an individual in favor of more time spent with these new pastimes, you have to wonder the kind of impact that this can all have on the future of our youth and children, and how much is truly being done publicly to promote exercise, physical fitness and extracurricular activity.

The main purpose to point out here is to focus and promote what was, and what will still continue to be an essential part in a person’s life regardless of the new technologies that fall into our laps, and to bring awareness to the importance of maintaining a healthy balance of physical fitness and active living within an ever changing world that often makes it easy not to bother.  We live in exciting times, there’s no question about that, but we need to continue to keep our own selves in check, not just our image of keeping up with the latest and greatest gadgets.

The benefits of a balanced life of work, play, and activity are a tremendous way to build a happier and healthier life for you and an improved overall self esteem.  Once you get a taste of how it feels to balance these things, you will then know the reasons why this is so true and begin to reap the many rewards that this will give you in return.

Please feel free to leave your feedback below and any relevant ideas towards training or healthy living, thoughts about issues such as examples mentioned in this post, and/or any concerns that you may have, and let’s help get the word out there by continuing to encourage and support a healthy way of life for all, and at any level.

Please forward any ideas you would like to see covered and we’ll try to address as many of these in future postings.
